Two Sisters+Classic Hollywood=One Hell Of A Good Time

Jean Harlow Hair Timeline

Everyone knows that Jean Harlow’s most defining feature was her platinum blonde hair. However, Jean’s hair wasn’t always styled the same, nor was it always platinum blonde! Here’s all of Jean’s hair phases:

Jean had a cute little bob with bangs as a child!

Jean around 1930, when “Hell’s Angels” was released. She had platinum hair, and it was cut very short.

Around 1931. She was really really platinum then (Platinum Blonde came out that year) and she began to fingerwave her hair 1930s style.

With red hair in 1932 for “Red Headed Woman”.

Around 1932-1933, back to platinum

In the mid 1930s, Jean adopted a brownette color. Years of platinum were not good to her, and she needed a break.

My favorite hair look on Jean: Curly! Around 1936.

1937. Jean’s last hairstyle :( from her last film “Saratoga”

On a totally random note, I stumbled across my new photo obsession:

    March 10, 2011 at 6:24 pm

    • Yep, they’re another example of true love in Hollywood!! :)

      March 10, 2011 at 7:06 pm

  11. Mark

:) before love became just another word :(

    March 10, 2011 at 10:05 pm

    • Sadly :( it’s disgusting how it’s always thrown around :(

      March 11, 2011 at 8:54 am

  12. Mark

It’s becoming meaningless :( just like the word “good movie” *sniggers*

    March 11, 2011 at 9:48 am

  13. Mark

I quite enjoy Mel Gibson movies, and Jeff Bridges is pretty cool, so’s Tom Selleck. But there’s no movies that come close to anything from the Golden Age’

    March 11, 2011 at 11:23 am

    • I’m not really familiar with their work :/ that’s pretty bad, I know.

      March 11, 2011 at 12:34 pm

  14. Mark

Not really :) I only like Mel Gibson coz he’s the only good Australian actor since Errol, Jeff Bridges coz he was in a film I saw called “Crazy Heart” that I loved and Tom Selleck because he’s a self-confessed huge Gabe fan :)

    March 11, 2011 at 7:25 pm

    • I’ve heard of Crazy Heart! And I knew Tom Selleck was a Gable fan!!! :)

      March 11, 2011 at 7:47 pm

  15. Mark

Crazy Heart has wonderful songs! Like Gramps, I’m a big fan of country, particularly Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard. Also Elvis!!!

I think if there was a “new Clark Gable” it’d be Tom Selleck!

    March 11, 2011 at 8:28 pm

    • I don’t really like country :( I have a weird music taste, so maybe I shouldn’t be talking :) It’s a mix of vintage jazz, swing, and big band, show tunes, movie soundtracks, foreign language music (especially French), classical music, stupid music…

Tom Selleck eensy weensy teeny tiny looks a little bit like Gabe…I think it’s the stache ;)

      March 11, 2011 at 8:49 pm

  16. Mark

I love jazz too :) Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington and Django Reinhardt :)

    I look like Gabe ;)

    March 11, 2011 at 11:22 pm

    • We should exchange music :D

      YES I KNOW. I KNOW. ;)

      March 12, 2011 at 12:18 am

  17. Mark

Hurray! Who’s your favorite jazz artist? I bet it’s Benny Goodman!
:( *covers face with mask, never to take it off*

    March 12, 2011 at 1:21 am

    • Hahaha why Benny Goodman? It’s funny, I do like him quite a bit! I don’t really pick songs according to the artist, but I’m quite partial to Paul Whiteman ;) I also like the Andrews Sisters a lot.

No no please take it off! :(

      March 12, 2011 at 8:41 am

  18. Mark

I just thought you’d be a Benny Goodman fan hehe. “Sing, Sing, Sing” is one of my favorites! I’ve heard of Paul Whiteman, but I don’t know where from! Same with the Andrews Sisters.

    *leaves mask on*

    March 12, 2011 at 8:54 am

    • Okay we DEFINITELY need to exchange music!!!

      *rips it off angrily*

      March 12, 2011 at 9:31 am

  19. Mark

    :D ok!

*you are repulsed by my face*

    March 12, 2011 at 10:32 am

    • Yay! No one else cares for my music :(

*swoons at the handsomeness of your face*

      March 12, 2011 at 1:40 pm

  20. Mark

I don’t care for their stupid old music!

*face becomes un-handsome as I am now blushing like mad*

    March 12, 2011 at 4:58 pm

    • I’m going to barrage you with lots of random music! You don’t have to like it, though ;)

Your face is always handsome! Blushing is cute!

      March 12, 2011 at 5:58 pm

  21. Mark

I probably would :) I would make a real effort to like it even if I didn’t just to please you :D

    *blushes even more if possible*

    March 12, 2011 at 9:45 pm

    • You’re too kind :) even French music?

      Aw ya big tuhmaytuh! :D

      March 12, 2011 at 10:23 pm

  22. Mark

I’ve heard some, it’s quite good :) very expressionistic!

    *beams happily*

    March 13, 2011 at 3:21 am

    • Yaayyy! I’m obsessed with these two French songs right now (I always have a song that I’m obsessed with for a period of time)

*stares at dimples in awe and wonder*

      March 13, 2011 at 8:31 am

  23. Mark

Same :) my song at the moment is “Something in the Water” by Brooke Fraser :)

*beams broader so you are happier*

    March 13, 2011 at 9:03 am

    • Mine is “La Mer” by Charles Trenet :)

*beams with you because I’m hypnotized by dimples*

      March 13, 2011 at 9:33 am

  24. Mark

*will try to remember to download it*

You’re so cute! I’ve never met someone who enjoys dimples :)

    March 13, 2011 at 9:56 am

    • I’ll just send it to you! :P

YOU’VE NEVER MET SOMEONE WHO ENJOYS DIMPLES?! They’re my reason for existing! I love them :)

      March 13, 2011 at 9:59 am

  25. Mark

    Ok :D

Nope. Well momma does but no one else :(

    March 13, 2011 at 10:52 am

    • Gosh, people stink! They don’t see beauty in anything!

      March 13, 2011 at 11:12 am

  26. Mark

    :) you do.

    March 13, 2011 at 10:48 pm

  27. *blushes*

    March 14, 2011 at 9:37 am

  28. Mark

    *wonders why you’re blushing*

    March 14, 2011 at 9:38 am

  29. Because you told me that I see beauty in everything.

    March 14, 2011 at 1:26 pm

  30. Mark

You do though :) :) that in itself is beautiful :)

    March 14, 2011 at 7:38 pm

    • People just see it as quirky. I see these little things in people and practically blow up over them. I’ll tell you a not-so-secret secret: I’m seriously obsessed with these dimples in Clark Gable’s shoulders. They are my reason for existence! If I tell that to someone, that the most attractive thing I find in that man is probably his dimpled shoulders, I’d get a weird look.

      March 14, 2011 at 9:08 pm

  31. Mark

I have dimples in my shoulders, like weird little indents :)

    March 15, 2011 at 12:33 am

  32. *swoons*

    March 15, 2011 at 9:58 am

  33. Mark

*catches you* wake up! Wake up!

    March 15, 2011 at 10:03 am

  34. *wakes up, only to swoon again at the thought of dimpled shoulders*

    March 15, 2011 at 12:37 pm

  35. Mark

*pulls shirt up as to completely cover my shoulders* wake up! Wake up!

    March 15, 2011 at 12:52 pm

    • *wakes up, but face fries from over-blush*

      March 15, 2011 at 1:26 pm

  36. Mark

*gently runs a cool loofah over your face to cool you down*

    March 15, 2011 at 1:46 pm

  37. Heheheh I love the word loofah :)

    March 16, 2011 at 7:54 am

  38. Mark

It’s a weird word! Like when you’re cleaning yourself with a sponge, you’re spinning, but with a loofah, you don’t say loofing!

    March 16, 2011 at 9:06 am

  39. Really? It’s called spinning? I had no idea!

    March 16, 2011 at 1:37 pm

  40. Mark

    >.< damn autocorrect! Sponging!

    March 16, 2011 at 2:06 pm

    • BAHAHA! And in true Dizzy Dame form, I fell for it! :D

      March 16, 2011 at 2:45 pm

  41. Mark

    Awww did you really?! :D

    March 16, 2011 at 2:53 pm

  42. Mark

    Cutie pie!

    March 16, 2011 at 6:42 pm

  43. No come on, that was dumber than anything else!

    March 16, 2011 at 9:13 pm

  44. Mark

It was cute! *is unable to say a bad word about you*

    March 16, 2011 at 11:32 pm

  45. Just admit it!!!

    March 17, 2011 at 8:57 am

  46. Mark

Well, maybe it was a teeny bit silly…

    March 17, 2011 at 9:33 am

  47. It was THTUUUPID ;)

    March 17, 2011 at 12:48 pm

  48. Mark

Awww you have a lisp :D just like my dad when he gets angry!

    March 17, 2011 at 3:05 pm

  49. Mark

Yeah I know but I reckon you’d sound cute with a lisp!

    March 17, 2011 at 9:48 pm

    • Hehehe with my voice, it would just sound stupid!

      March 17, 2011 at 10:28 pm

  50. Mark

Wit’ your Noo Yawkah accent ;)

    March 18, 2011 at 7:06 am

  51. Oh God it would sound even worse! Can you imagine?!

    March 18, 2011 at 8:17 am

  52. Mark

    Yes :D *beams*

    March 18, 2011 at 11:32 pm

  53. No it would sound stupid!

    March 18, 2011 at 11:45 pm

  54. Mark

    *continues beaming* :D

    March 19, 2011 at 1:43 pm

  55. STOPPPPP. :P

    March 19, 2011 at 2:35 pm

  56. Mark

    You mean “Thtop”! :D

    March 20, 2011 at 3:31 am

    • Wait a sec…I DO speak with a lisp! But it’s only when I wear my retainer, which is, like, never. I’m irresponsible, I know :(

      March 20, 2011 at 9:20 am

  57. Mark

    CUTE! :D

    March 20, 2011 at 12:33 pm

    • Ewww retainers are gross, not cute! I hate wearing it.

      March 20, 2011 at 3:20 pm

  58. Mark

There’s very little about you I don’t find cute

    March 20, 2011 at 5:02 pm

  59. Mark

    I think it’s simply adorable!

    March 20, 2011 at 11:57 pm

  60. I haven’t worn it in a while. I really need to :( but it hurts my mouth so bad :(

    March 21, 2011 at 10:20 am

  61. Mark

    You could “lose” it ;)

    March 21, 2011 at 2:21 pm

    • I can’t tell you how many times I’ve accidentally thrown it in the garbage! Of course my parents always seem to find it. Don’t ask me why my parents were looking in the garbage to begin with :/

      March 21, 2011 at 10:28 pm

  62. Mark

You’re a little menace! :) but you’re my little menace.

    March 22, 2011 at 12:51 am

  63. *beams* I wish you could see me now. It’s Wacky Tacky Day at school, and I look like a menace for sure! :P

    March 22, 2011 at 9:15 am

  64. Mark

    “Wacky Tacky” :’D
    Description necessary! :)

    March 22, 2011 at 6:17 pm

  65. It’s a day in which you have to wear wacky, tacky, ugly clothes! No matching, bright, colors, conflicting patterns, cheesy accessories…in general looking like an asshole from the 80s ;)

I wore a lace polka-dot camisole, a multicolored striped henley over that, a rainbow plaid button-down over that, pearl and chain necklaces, silk black bloomers with gold polka dots, black and purple harlequin patterned tights, yellow ankle socks, about 12 silly bandz on each wrist (I dunno if they were as big in Australia as they were here!), rainbow nail polish, blue eyeliner, red lipstick, mismatched earrings (one a feather with gold chains, the other this big circle thing), my school ring, a huge red sequin bow in my fro-head, and these shoes that have cutouts that show your socks and they have rhinestones all over them :D Wacky and tacky enough for ya?

    March 22, 2011 at 6:35 pm

  66. Mark

:D I can just picture it! You’re so refreshingly funny! :)
    Silly bandz?

    March 22, 2011 at 9:47 pm

    • Okay so it is just an American thing lol. They’re these colorful rubber bands shaped like animals and things. You wear them as bracelets. I’ll show you some when you come :)

      March 23, 2011 at 4:26 am

  67. Mark

    Only in America!

    March 23, 2011 at 3:38 pm

    • Oh my gosh, I can’t believe you haven’t heard of them! They took the country by STORM. I swear, it got so bad that they were out of stock everywhere and there were waiting lists in stores, and they were actually banned from some schools because they “distracted students from learning”! It was the biggest thing ever, yet they’re so stupid and cheap. My friends would pay each other for them, ask other people to order the bands for them, trade them with each other…it was insane! My sister’s friends actually got into a full-blown FIGHT because one accidentally snapped the other’s unicon-shaped band. They didn’t talk for a week! but then the trend died out as quickly as it started. If I can find it, I want to get you the Wild West pack, because you’re a cowboy ;) and they’re proabably the most manly Silly Bandz sold.

      March 23, 2011 at 5:51 pm

  68. Mark

That’s insane! I can’t really comment on what the craze is here as I’m so removed from people :P people seem to like all sorts of things. Zhu Zhu pets are pretty big. Even I have one because it was called Tex :D
I think amongst our generation, the biggest thing here is vampire pornography.

    March 28, 2011 at 11:46 pm

  87. This morning when I got off the bus to go to school, a Jewish boy got off before me and the wind blew off his yarmulke. I burst out laughing and felt bad about it afterwards :)

And can “Stand By Me” please get out of my head?! :(

    March 29, 2011 at 9:16 am

  88. Mark

*howls* AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Did he cry out “oy vey iz mir!”

Sing “Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead”. It’s the catchiest tune ever!

    March 29, 2011 at 11:08 am

  89. Nooo lmao! He ran after it in a panic.

As soon as I saw “ding dong” For Me and My Gal got stuck in my head :)

    March 29, 2011 at 1:29 pm

  90. Mark

    Hahahahahahaha!!! Those wacky Jews!
    :D hurray

    March 29, 2011 at 4:59 pm

    • People would take you for an Anti-Semite for saying that!
Did you ever see Animal Crackers? This song that Chico Marx played on the piano is stuck in my head now :)

      March 29, 2011 at 6:07 pm

  91. Mark

    :( but I’m not :(

You said “Animal Crackers” and I think “Hooray for Captain Spaulding!”

On an unrelated note, I’m watching a documentary on the Monkey Trial :)

    March 29, 2011 at 9:41 pm

    • Of course you aren’t, I know that. But they’re always running for the hills crying “ANTI-SEMITISM!!” for every little thing!

Ooh now THAT’S stuck in my head! Thank you very much, Mark William Glidden! ;)

Interesting :) is it as fun as Inherit The Wind?

      March 29, 2011 at 11:33 pm

  92. Mark

Oh. My. God. I was thinking that exact same thing the other week!! I mean, they’ve had a hard lot sure, but what the Israelis are doing in the Middle East is abhorrent and it seems no-one is willing to tell them to take a step back because of the Holocaust! I was arguing with my friendly rival about it recently.
    :D hehehe

It’s sad :( I feel so sorry for William Jennings Bryan :( I am buying a photo of him on eBay and framing it.

    March 30, 2011 at 3:52 am

  93. Thank you thank you thank you for agreeing with me on that! Because they went through a Holocaust 70 years ago doesn’t justify the fact that they are killing innocent civilians, even little babies!

Gosh, what devotion! It’s nice of you though :)

    March 30, 2011 at 2:11 pm

  94. Mark

    1. Then they have the audacity to threaten their neighbors with nuclear weapons! If anyone is going to instigate W.W.III it’ll be Israel because they’re being bullies.

    2. He’s my new hero :D

    March 30, 2011 at 6:08 pm

    • 1. Oh my God, finally a sensible person!

      2. You should make a post about your heroes :)

      March 30, 2011 at 6:36 pm

  95. Mark

    1. I respect the Jewish people, but I disapprove of Israeli aggression vehemently. They’re acting like the little brat who teases everyone in the schoolyard but who no-one dares say or do anything to because they have an older brother who’s very tough.

    2. I shall! You’ll be in there :D

    March 30, 2011 at 11:54 pm

  96. 1. I feel the same :)

    3. You inspire me!

    March 31, 2011 at 1:31 pm

  98. 1. I know lmao, we can discuss this in person :)

    2. I’ve never read the Divine Comedy :( my friends needed to read it in the original Italian for their Italian class and they didn’t like it :(

    3. But how? I can’t even think of one way!

    March 31, 2011 at 1:57 pm

    1. The eyes and ears of Israel lurk… ;)

    2. I have a copy of it which has the original Eyetalian on one page and the English translation on the facing page :D

    3. I did write this poem for your birthday but it seems to answer this question too:

    I am here, and
    You are there.
    It’s just not right.
    It just ain’t fair.

    But what I know is
    That we will be
    Great friends forever
    You will see!

    I love our chats
    ’bout the Golden Age
    Of actors, movies
    And mutual rage

    At the modern world
    Which is so cold
    Oh, how we long
    For the days of old!

    There’s nothing with you
    That I won’t share
    Because I know you listen
    And I know you care.

    I cherish you greatly
    My Carole Irene:
    The Dizziest Dame,
    The world’s ever seen.
