The Dames Hit Hollywood! Day One: The Walk Of Fame, Grauman’s, And A Break-In At The Roosevelt
Today I’m beginning the play-by-play of my Hollywood vacation! By the end of this series, you’ll hopefully feel as though you’ve been there with me vicariously through tons of photos and explanations. It’s your guide of modern-day Hollywood for the Classic Film Fan!
On my first day in Hollywood, I took no time to rest, and went straight to Hollywood Boulevard (which is where most of the action is!) We then did some of the Walk of Fame (my parents were so not going to do the whole thing. Me, being a big walking person, would not have at all minded seeing all 2500 stars that go on for miles on Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. Oh well.) It’s amazing to see them in person! Unfortunately, some people graffittied the empty ones, which is just low, cheap, and disgusting. Some are also ruined, and need to be fixed. Nonetheless, here are some of the luminaries we saw:

Lon Chaney’s was the first star we saw. Let me also take the chance to say Hollywood is even more unique than any other place because it is totally acceptable to take pictures on the ground.

Charles Butterworth, who I adored in Forsaking All Others with Clark Gable and Joan Crawford.

Douglas Fairbanks Sr, who did a lot to establish Hollywood in its early days.

Calling all Windies! It’s David O Selznick!

Errol Flynn. The poor man has evidently suffered some damage at the hands of tourists and pedestrians

One of my all-time favorite comediennes, Carole Lombard

And last but definitely not least, the Boy Wonder Irving Thalberg! (More on him later!)
Now let me take the opportunity to post a picture of an extremely pale-faced statue of James Dean outside a gift shop:
Heheheh. Anyway, let’s continue. Baby and I quickly lost interest in the Walk of Fame, however, when we saw one of the spires of the legendary Chinese Theatre, the location in which thousands of stars attended glamorous premieres of their films and entered their hand and footprints in a specially made cement. It gave me the CHILLS just to be in its presence! But since we were across the street from the Theatre, we decided to take our chances and sneak into the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, founded by Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, and Charlie Chaplin and once home to Marilyn Monroe, Montgomery Clift, and Gable and Lombard. It was also the home of the first Academy Awards celebration (which lasted fifteen minutes) and it is nothing short of a LEGEND in every sense of the word. It is beautiful inside, with a medieval castle theme mixed with wonderful 20s and 30s Deco:

The sign outside the door. We’re such tourists, aren’t we?

A really cute plaque of Charlie Chaplin, also outside the door.

The lobby. Can you imagine the amount of stars that once walked in this same room?

There were two thrones on either side of the hallway. Here’s one of ‘em

The chandelier in the lobby. Ain’t it a beaut?

This ADORABLE vintage letterbox on the far end of the lobby

A photo of Marilyn Monroe upstairs. Apparently, her ghost (one of the many!) haunts the hotel.

The upstairs hallway. We were real stinkers!!
After acting like criminals at the Roosevelt, Baby and literally pounded down the pavement into Grauman’s. It was just so overwhelming and beautiful, I broke down and cried like a little baby. It was the biggest thrill of my life, and I didn’t wash my hands for a full 24 hours afterwards.

Our first look at Grauman’s, when we were still across the street by the Roosevelt

Donald O’Connor (my newest actor obsession) and his mom

And lastly, Ginger Rogers, who had a helluva fancy signature!
Hope you enjoyed day one of my Hollywood vacation! Plenty more to come!

Hello my dear!!! I’m so happy to hear from you! How is everything?? Did you get my response to your email?
This post took me over four hours lol, I’m too lazy to do the rest of the days, but I promised, therefore I must deliver!

I await your response lug. It feels good to talk to you again. I’ve missed you bunches! And how handsome you must look with a vest and a pocket watch!

*blushes* oh you
my email reply may take a while because my senseless sister downloaded an INCREDIBLE amount of garbage and so it takes an age for anything to load. But I’m on a bus now and will reply to as many posts as possible, then when I’ve got a spare moment I’ll reply to the rest
I am
I’m not having a party or anything as I know money is a little tight because we have a truckload of medical bills, but it doesn’t matter, I’m just thankful to have my family all in one piece
so, I aim to be there by Feb/March next year at the very latest. My parents are talking about an international trip next year, maybe I could convince them to go to N.Y. (my sister fancies herself as Holly Golightly so she would need no convincing). I’m sure they’d delight in meeting you my darling.
Darling, I’m not sure when I’ll make it to Brooklyn. Though I get an allowance of $700 a fortnight, I imagine there’ll be a bit left to do for a few months. I endeavour to come as soon as possible, I think a return ticket would cost maybe $1100, accommodation maybe a little more and I’d want at least $2000 to spend

1. It’s perfectly fine dear don’t worry about it
But your sister really does need her own laptop ASAP!
2. I’m SO RELIEIVED that everything is ok now
that’s all what matters love. You can’t ask for anything better. Take care of all important things before you think about coming here. You’re so worth the wait, whether it be several months or several years. I’ll wait for you forever if I have to! But don’t be sad about it. Such friends aren’t meant to be separated for long! I know that it’s much more fun to see each other face-to-face, but we will soon I KNOW it! Please don’t be sad. I don’t want to be the cause of any sadness dear. I want you to be happy and to enjoy yourself. When you’re happy, I’ll feel it and I’ll be happy too. We can still talk about Larry’s impression of superiority and laugh about even though we aren’t face-to-face, you know that! You can share anything with me and we can still laugh about it
And you know what? I’m going to make it all up to you on your birthday! I’ve got a big surprise for you! (it’s in an email so should I send it ahead of time so it can load??)
PS: You get a LOT of allowance!!! AWESOME! (I get $15 a week!)
3. I would love to meet your family! I hope I won’t get all shy in front of them though :/ believe it or not, your favorite bigmouth gets shy when meeting new people.
4. Prom was fun!!! We will have our own prom when we see each other to make up for it so don’t worry!
Can I tell you all about it?

1. She was going to buy one but then fluttered her money away. She needs to get manners ASAP. I had lunch with Mummy yesterday and she was showing me abusive text messages my sister had sent her because Mum wouldn’t give her her credit card number so she (Lucy) could buy Microsoft points for the XBox.
2. :’) *cuddles right in* you’re amazing <3
PS: Her Majesty's Australian Government give me mine
3. My parents are very affable and would make you feel at ease
if you were shy they would think it was adorable! I'm not sure if you'd get along with Lucy. She's sort of the anti-Carole
4. I would love to hear all about it

Hello dear I’m at prom so I will respond ASAP when it’s over. Wish you could be here with me!
May 18, 2011 at 10:20 pm
Oh if only
I bought a splendid new fedora today and am wearing a vest, button up shirt and trousers, if I could only teleport to be by your side
I would charleston with you until dawn.
I have such great affection for you but can only express it through words. What I wouldn’t give to spend a day, an hour with you forgetting this stupid world and being in an idyllic bliss :’( *heart breaks*
On a classic movie note, I bought a Larry set with some of his Shakespeare films. My heart then grew heavy because I can’t watch them as I’d be too melancholy without you by my side, laughing away at his nonchalance.
Oh it’s not fair
May 19, 2011 at 3:06 am
1. Of my goodness and for something really stupid as well! I know she’s your sister and i should be nice but she makes it quite difficult for anyone to show her kindness!
2. You’re the amazing one my dear. Hopefully you’ll be thrilled with your birthday surprise and you can shake off your melancholy mood. Yes, I can tell. And I know you’ve been through a lot so you deserve nothing but the best right now
PS: daddy-o gives me mine
3. I’m not worried about your parents at all…well not as much as I am about Lucy :/ she reminds me of a big bully, no offense
4. I’ll explain it in much detail tomorrow when I get home from the senior luncheon and I can cuddle up with my laptop but in a nutshell the dancing was fun, I criticized all the dresses and dates, the food stank, the video yearbook people were annoying, some people got hilariously drunk, and there was a LOT of pda going on that it almost made me throw up my stomach bile (I practically ate nothing but these cracker things because the food was that bad). Oh and did I mention it was POURING outside?!
May 19, 2011 at 10:13 pm
1. She was yelling at Dad this morning because he was blowing his nose. And because he has a throat infection on top of his muscular illness (we still don’t know what it is) it was quite loud. But Lucy was banging on the wall and hollering at him to shut up and etc.
2. I am melancholy because I desire to see you with all my heart
PS- you should ask Daddy Dearest for a raise now you’re a college gal! Oh it’s exciting! I remember my first day
I sat in the courtyard that morning and read Bob Dylan’s autobiography until my first class
(the smoking started the second week, I fancied myself as Orson Welles and was rarely seen outside class without a cigar).
3. You shouldn’t worry about my parents at all cutie. They will adore you! Lucy is a bully. At least in our house. I tell Mum and Dad all the time that I’m fed up with her bullying us all and having to walk such a thin line to keep her happy. I think Dad is about ready to give up trying with her. Out of Mum, Dad and I, it’s Dad who gets the worst of her anger. Even though he’s very sick.
4. I can’t believe people were drunk! At our formal, they were Naziesque in their rooting out of alcohol! People still had it, as well as drugs I’m lead to believe. I had a miserable formal too. My girlfriend spent the whole night sulking because a boy she had a crush on was ignoring her.
May 20, 2011 at 10:18 pm
1. My Lord! How horrid! Does she have any mercy, love, or consideration? He’s not just anyone, he’s her father! What’s wrong with her? I don’t know him at all yet I pray for him at least twice a day when I wake up and before I sleep, and whenever I get the chance throughout the day! What a shame she’s like this
2. You will soon I know from the bottom of my heart
don’t let thoughts of the future mess up the wonderful happy moments you can find in the present
3. She’s bratty and merciless and she needs to get rid of that attitude of hers the hard way since whatever you guys do for her she obviously takes for granted.
4. Oh yeah they enforced a lot of rules against drinking and drugs and yet some people still got drunk! And a girl got kicked out of the prom for drinking too much. But I think the really terrible stuff happened in the after prom. As you can tell by my new post my formal was pretty bad. There were some funny moments, but the bad things eclipsed the good
May 20, 2011 at 11:35 pm
1. You’re so wonderful
2.
I know it will be soon my darling
3. She does. She’s being especially merciless at the moment because she wants her own laptop so she can play the Sims 3.
4. Goodness!!
June 2, 2011 at 7:49 am
1. How is he doing? Better I hope?
2. Maybe it is lucky you aren’t coming in July after all…I’ve gained a lot of weight, and I’ve gotten a nasty tan
I guess a later trip gives me a chance to fix myself so I can look presentable for you
Oh, I know this is random but how was your play? You never told me about it!!
3. That’s the dumbest reason for a laptop I’ve ever heard. Does she have any idea how expensive they are??
4. Yep. Their limo driver even got arrested for allowing minors to drink alcohol. The drinking age in the US is 21
